Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition defined by disproportionate pain response, fatigue, muscle pain, sleep disturbances, cognitive impairment (brain fog), depression, and infections. Diagnosis can sometimes take years and is confirmed by checking for the presence of 18 tender points or trigger points, however, many physicians refuse to even acknowledge the disease.

Typically, patients are treated with chronic pain drugs like Cymbalta and Lyrica, which can work reasonably well to alleviate symptoms, but do not treat the root cause, which is as yet unknown.

A New Type of Treatment

TVAM (Transvascular Autonomic Modulation) is unique in that it goes beyond treatment of the symptoms, affecting the CNS (central nervous system) directly through manipulation of the autonomic nerve fibers that travel along the jugular vein, improving overall autonomic function.

Patients with Fibromyalgia also suffer from autonomic dysfunction, or dysautonomia. Symptoms of autonomic dysfunction include fatigue, sleep disturbances, altered cognitive function (brain fog), thermal intolerance, headaches, and bladder or bowel dysfunction. An ongoing scientific study conducted at Synergy Health with a growing pool of patients with autonomic dysfunction (over 600), has shown definitive results in favor of TVAM.

Of the patients who have come to Synergy Health for the TVAM procedure who have been previously diagnosed with fibromyalgia, we’ve seen encouraging results.

Because our sample size is small, it is too soon to draw definitive conclusions or publish success rates specific to fibromyalgia, but early results show improved energy levels, better sleep, improved cognitive function, reduced pain, and reduced muscle stiffness. All of our fibromyalgia patients have reported “lifting” of their fibro fog during the procedure.

Addressing Both Pain and Fatigue

Pain and fatigue dominate the daily life of fibromyalgia patients. Typically, they wake up slowly, taking the better part of the day to “warm up”, peaking in the early to late evening. Patients who undergo TVAM should expect a reduction in fatigue throughout the day and better quality sleep at night.

While it is unclear if the disproportionate pain response seen in fibro patients is autonomic, we’ve had positive early results in pain reduction as well.

Autonomic dysfunction appears to be progressive. When the ANS (autonomic nervous system) can no longer keep the body regulated and in optimal condition, over time damage to various organ systems is inevitable. For that reason, we believe that early intervention is advantageous.
